HEALTHY HOLIDAYS FROM CIGNA
GOOD FOOD FOR GREAT RESULTS
It’s no secret that food affects our bodies and impacts how well
we function every day. But did you know that proper nutrition can
be the key to success in your athletic performance as well?
“Healthy
foods such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken,
yogurt, nuts and seeds (rather than supplements) are highly
recommended to achieve optimal results,” says Susan Welter, R.D.,
registered dietician with CIGNA and marathon runner. “They provide
the best source of fuel to the body to promote maximum muscle
endurance, strength, and recovery throughout training for sporting
event.” Read more.

SHARPIE
Sharpie "Road Siders" are back to keep your mind alert on this 26.2
mile journey of exhilaration at the Walt Disney World®
Resort! To get you through this week’s training just ponder these
thoughts on your runs… Why don't you ever see the headline "Psychic
Wins Lottery"? Do Lipton employees take coffee breaks? And last but
not least, "Always try to be modest, and be proud of it!" Keep your
eyes on the road for more inquiring and inspiring thoughts from
Sharpie!
CLIF BAR PACE TIP - Marathon Pace
Runs
Marathon
pace in shorter races – Find a 5-mile, 10K or half-marathon and run
it at your marathon pace. DO NOT RACE! This will help you get a feel
for the pace in a race situation but won’t leave you too tired for
your training.
Marathon
pace in longer runs – During your final long runs, throw in 3 miles
at marathon pace at the end of the run. This will give you an idea
of what marathon pace feels like when you are tired (and help you
understand that the pace team leaders on race day really aren’t
speeding up at the end of the marathon, it only feels that way!).
Register for either the Half Marathon or Marathon Pace Team today!
START TIME
The
start zone for both the Half Marathon and the Marathon is located in
the Wonder Parking Lot at Epcot®. Please plan on at least a
20-minute walk from the start zone to your corral. The number on
your race number will correspond with your assigned corral. Signs
and event personnel will help you find your corral. For safety
reasons, and as a courtesy to others, please line up in the
appropriate corral. Measures will be taken to prevent unofficial
runners from starting.
